De Burg .... Watch out for their Burgers!

Pork Burger with 200g Australian Pork Patties
The last burgers that I had were from the likes of Carl's Jr and McDonald's, all of them popular American burger chain. Finding one burger joint in the heartland housing estate that can beat the American joints was really exhilarating. In a coffee shop under an old HDB flat in Ghim Moh lies De Burg. De Burg specializes in burgers and they use premium meat from Australia. There's 2 sizes for the burgers in the menu. Needless to say, there's a range of beef burgers and even the Wagyu. However, the Wagyu will be served in limited servings and only during Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays. Apart from beef, there's also chicken and pork. The photo above shows my pork burger with a 200g Australian Pork Patties. The smaller portion is available with the 100g patty. This De Burg's pork burger has the pork patty, crispy bacon, fresh tomato and wild rockets sandwiched between soft sesame sprinkled burger bun. The highlight of this burger was the tasty, juicy pork patty that had the juice ooze out as I slice through the burger.

In addition to burgers, De Burg also served sausages. We ordered a 12 piece Viennese sausage set. These sausages tasted really delicious with the BBQ sauce that came with it. It tasted superb on it's own too.

Here's a peek of the simple looking stall. However simple's the stall, their burgers do pack a punch. One little flaw is in their fries. It was a little too hard. After my lunch here in this coffee shop, I think it'll be advisable to take the seats outside under the canvas shelter. Else, like me, you'll smell like cooked food. De Burg produces good burgers worth the time to take apart. Woof!

Jiu Jiang Shao La 九江烧腊 ..................... for those who likes the more charred char siew

I've been here again at the Ghim Moh Food Centre for lunch and everytime there is a constant line of people queuing at a Roast Pork and Char Siew rice stall, Jiu Jiang Shao La 九江烧腊. I like my char siew more charred and the roast pork to have a crispy skin. Jiu Jiang has done the char siew the way I like it, the roast pork's skin is not as crispy as I desired but is good enough. The meat of char siew and roast pork are chosen such that they have about good proportion of fats versus lean meat ratio. The right proportion of fats make this dish tastier. I only said tastier......... I'm not an advocate of healthy eating. The gravy makes this lunch time food a draw for the line of people.

Heavens Indian Curry ......... Thosai Specialist in Ghim Moh

I realized that the last few times I was eating thosai, I have only been eating from Heavens Indian Curry, a hawker stall in Ghim Moh Food Centre. Thosai is a crepe like South Indian Delicacy that is rich in carbohydrates and proteins, from its main ingredients, rice and black lentils. The thosais here are freshly made on the round hot plates over the stoves. Their version is not as thick as others that I've eaten before and I liked this thiner thosai texture. There are several varieties of the thosai that they make. The varieties changes with the different filling that is added on the circular thosai before folding it into half, forming a semi-circular fan shape, and sandwiched the filling.

My Cheese and Egg Prata set at (S$2) to go with some chutneys and sambar.

Apart from the list of thosais, Heavens Indian Curry also have appam and puttu mayam. I love puttu mayam (S$1.80 per set) for the fragrance from the meshed vermicelli. In addition, the slight salty taste of the grated coconut and, of course, sweet coconut palm sugar (gula melaka) rolled into the meshed vermicelli makes a good dessert.
