Zhen Shan Mei is a popular laksa stall in the Alexandra Road area. The laksa is cooked in claypots. When you get your claypot of laksa, the gravy should still be bubbling away. The laksa gravy from this stall is thick and fragrant. During lunchtime, a long queue can form very quickly.
But is this the original Depot Road Claypot Laksa from the old Blk 107 at Depot (Blk 107 is no longer there)? This has been the little topic of friendly contention among me and one of my colleague. If you bother to search and look at the other food sites, there seems to be many that claims the original Depot Road Claypot Laksa.
Actually I'm not too bothered with which is the original. The most important thing is whether the food is good or not. Zhen Shan Mei makes the laksa gravy thick and the extra boiling in the claypot gets the noodle infused with the curry's fragrant. Although this laksa is delicious, saved by the thick fragrant laksa gravy, they can be more generous with the fish cakes, cockles and prawns. After all it's a S$4.50 medium serving. It makes me wonder if the ingedients in the S$3.50 serving is adequate.
My claypot of laksa. I took the medium portion that cost me S$4.50 ..........
